Askrigg is a proper Dales village, with cobbled streets, stone cottages and wide views across the valley. Fans of All Creatures Great and Small will recognise it straight away, as the BBC filmed the original series here. Our hotel sits in the middle of Main Street, with walking routes right on the doorstep.
Two nights gives you a full day in between to explore. Aysgarth Falls is a 9 minute drive away, and the Wensleydale Creamery in Hawes is around 10 minutes.
We have 12 en-suite bedrooms with a mix of twin, double and king rooms, each decorated in a warm country style with a bath and shower. Some keep original features of our 19th century building, and large Victorian windows look out over the winter countryside.
Bringing your dog? We have a limited number of dog friendly rooms, so please email us before booking to check availability. A £25 pet charge applies.

Our kitchen cooks traditional Yorkshire food with produce from local suppliers, including meat from Hammond's of Bainbridge and vegetables and eggs from Carrick's of Bedale. Through December, we serve a festive menu of hearty winter dishes and indulgent puddings. Dinner runs from 5:30pm to 8pm, and we recommend booking your table when you reserve your room. Gluten free, vegan and vegetarian options are available.
In the bar, you will find Wensleydale cask ales brewed just down the road in Leyburn, along with a fire to warm up after a cold walk.
Time your break right and you can join one of our December events, from wreath and bauble making workshops to a Festive Party Night, Festive Afternoon Tea and Sunday Lunch with Santa. See our Christmas page for dates and prices.
Middle House has plenty of festive events planned throughout December, including:
Wreath Making Workshop (Tuesday 9th December, 7 pm, £50 pp)

Decorate your own Christmas baubles with Laura Cloughton Design, accompanied by festive nibbles and a drink.

Festive Party Night (£39 pp, 7–Midnight)
Celebrate with a glass of fizz, a three-course festive dinner, and dancing to our resident DJ.

Festive Afternoon Tea (Saturday 20th December, 12–3 pm, £25–£30 pp)
Indulge in a seasonal afternoon tea, with the option to add a glass of festive fizz.

Sunday Lunch with Santa (Sunday 14th December, 12–3 pm, Kids £12, Adults £29–£39)
Enjoy a Sunday lunch with Santa, including gifts for children and two- or three-course meals for adults.

If your two nights fall on the 24th, 25th or 26th of December, stays on those dates are room only. There is no breakfast and food and bar service is limited, so our team can enjoy some of Christmas with their own families. On every other night of the season, a full Yorkshire breakfast is included.
December is our busiest month, so we recommend booking early. Book directly online for our best price, call us on 01969 650515 or email info@middlehouseaskrigg.co.uk.
