Did you know that one of Yorkshire’s best hidden gems is just ten minutes down the road from the main town of Hawes? The quaint village of Askrigg is bursting with traditional charm and is home to the Middle House, where you can find (in our opinion) the best Sunday Lunch in the Yorkshire Dales.
Our Sundays Are Popular For A Reason!
We serve Sunday lunch every week from 12 noon to 2pm. Choose from a selection of classic roasts- slow braised beef brisket, roast chicken, and roast pork belly among them- served with all the trimmings including a homemade Yorkshire pudding.
Don’t fancy a roast? We have a wide selection of other mains, starters and desserts that make good use of local and regional produce. Take a look at our sample Sunday lunch menu to see what's on.
Gluten-free and vegan options are available throughout, and children are well catered for. We also accept well-behaved dogs into our restaurant.
Make A Day Of It
Askrigg is a hidden gem that many visitors staying in Hawes don't realise is just around the corner. Did you know it's one of the most iconic locations in Herriot Country? Skeldale House- the building used as the surgery in the BBC's beloved All Creatures Great and Small- still stands on the Main Street beside the historic village church, and the setting for the Drovers Arms remains recognisable to fans of the series to this day. It’s well worth the short journey from Hawes to see what we’re all about.
It's a beautiful village to explore, and once you've had a wander, The Middle House is the perfect place to sit down and enjoy proper Yorkshire hospitality.
