Askrigg is one of those Yorkshire Dales villages that stops you in your tracks. Cobbled streets, traditional stone cottages and sweeping hillside views make it a destination in its own right- familiar to many as the filming location for the beloved BBC series All Creatures Great and Small. At the heart of the village sits The Middle House, one of the finest places to eat in Askrigg and the surrounding Yorkshire Dales.

Traditional Food, Locally Sourced

Our menu celebrates the best of Yorkshire cooking, with ingredients sourced from trusted local suppliers wherever possible. Fresh meat is supplied by the renowned Hammond's of Bainbridge, lending every dish a genuinely regional character. Expect hearty, well-crafted plates- treacle braised beef brisket, pesto salmon fillet, a duo of British pork, and starters ranging from Yorkshire oak smoked salmon to ham hock terrine. Our dessert menu is equally tempting, with classics like homemade sticky toffee pudding and warmed apple and bramble crumble that need no further introduction.
Lunch is served Friday to Sunday, with light bites and sourdough sandwiches alongside more substantial plates. If you're visiting on a Sunday, our Sunday lunch menu is extremely popular- please book your table in advance.

Dietary Requirements

We offer a good range of gluten-free and vegan options throughout the menu. While our kitchen is compact, our team takes extra care when preparing dishes to accommodate dietary needs as safely as possible.

The Middle House also has cosy rooms available, making it easy to turn a meal into a proper Yorkshire Dales escape. Guests are treated to a full Yorkshire breakfast each morning- the perfect start before heading out to explore our beautiful countryside.
